IC Tiny Tech
IC Tiny Tech is Laura Crossett (with occasional help from some friends). I provide support for small businesses and nonprofits, activist groups, and individuals in the Iowa City area.
Principles
IC Tiny Tech has no mission or vision statement. I do, however, operate–or strive to operate–by the following principles.
Mutual Regard
Alice Lynd used to say that every encounter between a draft counselor and a draftee was a meeting between two experts. I strive to adhere to that principle in all my work. I may be the technology expert, but only you are the expert on your business, your cause, or your life.
Transparency
I do my best to give you a fair assessment of what I can do, what I can’t do, and what I can try but can’t guarantee. I believe our work should be an ongoing conversation, not a one-way transaction.
Confidentiality
When you invite someone in to work in your home or your work, you are inherently trusting them with a lot of your life. When you ask them to work on the machines where you do your work and spend your time, you may be opening up even more. I respect that trust you have placed in me and consider the information we exchange private.
About Laura
Laura Crossett is an Iowa City native who worked for fifteen years in public libraries from Wyoming to Illinois, where she helped people get their first email addresses, apply for jobs, set up text notifications for citizenship applications, and fixed a lot of printer jams.
She has studied Ancient Greek, nonfiction writing, library and information science, and information technology and has worked (among other things) as a campus security guard, an office temp, a dog walker, a web content writer, and in the unpaid position known as “parent.”
